For Carole Minhinnick, horses are all in the family.

“I’ve been riding for as long as I can remember,” said Carole, 76, who lives near London, Ontario.

She caught the horse bug young. When she was five, her father bought her a pony. Horses were part of her life from then on, even after she had her own children. Then, she shared her lifelong passion with them.

“They rode before they could walk,” Carole said, of her two daughters. “And they’re still doing it now.”

For years, Carole rode and competed with her daughters in hunter/jumper circuits across Canada. Now she rides with her daughter Terry, 59, and granddaughter Ashlyn, 20. Carole says she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Carole says her granddaughter Ashlyn, a university student, is “just as crazy as we are” about horses. “She loves to ride and she’s quite competitive.”

“We ride together and we go to shows together,” she described. “To share that passion with them, it’s just great.”

Ecogold is celebrating International Women’s Day with horsewomen like Carole, her daughter Terry and granddaughter Ashlyn. The love of the animal unites us all. And sharing that passion with the ones we love only makes that bond more special.
