Ecogold provides solutions. Each of our saddle pads is carefully engineered to solve common problems, from overheating to saddle slipping. But we provide solutions for unconventional problems too. In this series, we’ll be featuring horses in unique situations where an Ecogold saddle pad came to the rescue. Today’s story showcases a horse with a high wither.

Meet Jake, a 17.2 hand Percheron who was donated to the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council this July. He’s a favourite among the girls, specializes in the Love, Hug & Groom program… and has very high withers.

“Any pads with extra back support didn’t offer clearance, or if it had room for the withers, it didn’t have any back support” said Sarah Triplett, GSSJC Horse Trainer. “Ecogold’s Secure Western pad really solved both issues we were having on fitting Jake.”

Jake is still working on building muscle, so Ecogold’s shimmable Western Secure pad will be able to grow with him. Foam shims allow the pad to be adjusted to his changing topline, which now has much needed support. The high wither contour of the Secure saddle pad gives him more than enough clearance to prevent rubs or discomfort.

At 20 years old, Jake is a retired carriage horse who was originally donated to the Houston Police Department. Because of his age, they gave him to the Girl Scouts instead. He’s been a hit with the girls and volunteers, and because he now has a properly-fitting saddle pad, he can look forward to joining in the Girl Scout lesson programs as he builds more muscle.

“So far we love his Secure pad, and I’ve gotten the other trainer on board with Ecogold now that she’s ridden in it on a few different horses,” said Sarah. “It was exactly what we needed for Jake!”
